Carolyn Marie Grow

Carolyn Marie Grow, was born on February 7, 1940 in Pasadena, California. She moved to Grantsville in 1999 and truly loved the town and the friends she made here. She passed away peacefully on March 28, 2014 . Carolyn loved to share her talents in art, theater, music, cooking and gardening. She earned a Masters Degree in Marine Biology and conducted research work in that field for many years. She is survived by her ten children, two brothers and her mother. Her funeral services will be held March 3rd at 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse located at 428 S. Hale Street, Grantsville, Utah. Leslie Bunn Chadwick

Our wonderful wife, mother, daughter and grandmother Leslie Bunn Chadwick passed away on March 28, 2014 in Tooele, Utah at the age of 62 from a recent illness and 25 years of diabetes. She was born on July 25, 1951 in Tooele, Utah the only daughter of George Arnold Bunn and Betty McFarland Bunn and the sister of Stephen (Jeannette) Bunn and Lee Bunn. She developed her love of horses and rodeo growing up on the MelbaAnn Ranch in Vernon, Utah where she spent most of her years. She married Harold W. Chadwick on March 29, 1968 in Elko, Nevada and have two daughters Kelly and Stacey. She loved following her girls around to all their sporting events especially softball games. She loved watching her girls play softball and was their biggest fan. Her pride and joy was her grandchildren, Braden Russell, Kassidie Russell, Austin Chadwick, and Brennan Harvey. She loved having them around and watching them at their sporting events and the activities they were involved in. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Grantsville Fire Department Auxiliary, and the State Firemen’s Association Auxiliary of which she served a year as the President. She is survived by her husband of 46 years Harold, her two daughters Kelly (Kyle) Russell, and Stacey (Charley) Harvey, her 4 grandchildren, her mother Betty Bunn and her two brothers. She is also survived by her brother-in-laws, Glen, Johnny, Lynn and Jody Chadwick, and her sister-in-laws Denise Chadwick, Carrie Chadwick, and Jeannette Bunn as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father George Bunn, grandparents and several aunts and uncles. In lieu of flowers please make donations in her name to the Utah Diabetes Association. A viewing will be held Wednesday April 2, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at the Grantsville West Stake Center on 115 E. Cherry Street. Funeral services will be held on Thursday April 3, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. with a viewing from 10-11:30 a.m. Interment in the Grantsville City Cemetery. Preston J. Empey

Preston Empey, 87, loving husband, father and grandfather returned home on March 19, 2014 to reunite with parents, brothers, sister and grandson, Ethan Empey. Preston was born on September, 11, 1926 to Hyrum Bryner and Mary Ann Harradence Empey in St. George, Utah. He was the youngest of 7 children and spent the first years of his life growing up and working on his family's farm in St. George. He graduated from Dixie Junior College High School in 1944. Shortly after, he joined the U.S. Navy and served as a Sea Bee from 1944 to 1947. He loved music and played the clarinet and saxophone in several naval bands in the South Pacific and China during WWII and in Port Hueneme, CA, where he met Glenna Grant. They were married on June 5, 1948 (later solemnized in the Manti Temple in1964). Preston graduated from Dixie College in 1949 and received his degree in music from BYU in 1952. The majority of Preston's work career was spent in the dairy industry. In 1953, he worked for Cloverleaf Dairy in Provo, where he quickly became manager. He transferred to Tooele in 1963 with Highland Dairy, which was later acquired by Cream O' Weber. He was a home delivery and milk distributor for 57 years. He did not retire until the age of 83. He and his milk trucks were known by many in the Tooele valley. Preston's talent and love of music was shared continually through various church callings in the LDS church. He directed numerous ward and stake choirs, countless church services and orchestras for church musical productions (The Music Man, The Sound of Music, Fiddler on the Roof). Preston grew up in an era when your value came from how hard you worked. He was loyal and loved his family, his church, his country and his many customers. We will miss his generous heart and sense of humor. He is survived by his wife (Glenna), his 5 children, Robert Empey, Kerry Hatch (Kyle), Jan Lorensen (Preston), Kendall Empey (Teri) and Tracie Sexton (Ted). He also has 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. The family wishes to express special thanks and gratitude to the staff of CNS Hospice Care. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday March 25 at the Skyline LDS Church, 777 Skyline Dr., Tooele. Viewings will be held at the same church on Monday from 7:00 to 8:30 PM and on Tuesday from 10:00 to 10:45 AM. Interment at Tooele City Cemetery. Matthew Shirl Black

Matthew (Matt) Shirl Black born Oct. 12, 1971 passed away March 4, 2014. He grew up in Taylorsville, Utah and graduated from Taylorsville High School. He married his childhood sweetheart, Annette Hyde, on March 28, 1991. Matt was a lover of the outdoors, the Yankees, a good drink, and bagpipe music. Matthew was very accomplished in his field of work, HVAC, where he earned the rank of journeyman and taught many apprentices at UVU. Later in life he was blessed to have gained a relationship with his birth family. There was nothing in life he loved more than his family and friends. Matt is survived by his wife, five children Monica, Morgan, Mickelle, McKenzy, and only son, Matt. As well as his precious granddaughter, Elise (Boobala). Father, Shirl R. Black and sisters Jennifer (Terry) Word and Becky Kehl and many other family and friends. A memorial service will be held March 8, 2014 at 2:00 p.m in the LDS church located at 428 S Hale Street Grantsville, Utah 84029. Services are entrusted to Didericksen, 435-277-0050.

Doris Ann Houghton

On March 3, 2014, our Special Angel, Doris Ann Houghton, returned to the arms of our Heavenly Father. She was born on October 31, 1975 to Robert J. and Myrna Houghton. She touched the lives of all who knew her and got one of her smiles. She is survived by her parents, 5 brothers and 2 sisters: Mark (Melanie) Houghton, Kathy (Jim) Clay, Leon Houghton, Raymond (Cheryl) Houghton, Steven (Laura) Houghton, Gary (Nanette) Houghton, and Jean Houghton and many many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her grandparents, uncles, and a cousin. She will be greatly missed. Special thanks to Rise and Harmony Health and all the aides who have helped with Doris over the years. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 7th at the Grantsville 6th ward chapel (81 N. Church St, Grantsville).
