1933-2015
Herbert Y. Begay passed away peacefully in his home January 5, 2015 in Grantsville, Utah at the age of 81. Herbert is survived by his wife Bertha A. Begay of Grantsville, UT and 14 children, Hubert (Hanna) Begay of Hurricane, UT; Johnny (Geneva) Begay of Sanders, AZ; Herbert Jr. (Laura) Begay of Sanders, AZ; Larry (Leslie) Begay of Aloha, OR; Allen Begay of Boise, ID; Harry (Tracy) Begay of Grantsville, UT; Henry Begay of Grantsville, UT; Julia (Jose) Mendez of Salt Lake City, UT; Elizabeth (Clay) Rainer of Grantsville, UT; Herb (Beth) Begay of Wausau, WI; Mary (Jahn) Chafshin of Salt Lake City, UT; Margaret (Merrill) Brown of Magna, UT; Danny Begay of Grantsville, UT; Johnson Begay of Grantsville, UT; 40 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren. Herbert was born on August 15, 1933 in Chinle, AZ to John and Elizabeth Begay. He married Bertha Aguilera on July 4th, 1967. They resided in Idaho for 5 years, moved to Nevada for another 5 years, then moved to Utah in 1976 and have made that their home for the last 38 years. Herbert worked for The Union Pacific Railroad for 25 years and retired in the early 1990's. He was a founder and member of the Native American Church of A' Shii-Be-To'. He enjoyed helping people, guiding them through prayer meetings. He loved traveling and listening to Classic Country Music. He had a wonderful, loving sense of humor and always looked for the good in everyone. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Elizabeth Begay, brother Jackie and sisters Clara, Rachel and Margaret. Funeral Services were held on Thursday, January 8, 2015. He rests at Grantsville City Cemetery. The family would like to thank Rocky Mountain Hospice, Matt Nash, RN and Didericksen Memorial for their care and assistance.
